Short answer: When a Google ad is disapproved, it cannot run. When it is eligible (limited), it runs only in some places or for some users. Open Policy manager or hover over the status to see the exact policy, fix the cause in the ad, the asset or the landing page, then resubmit or appeal. Most problems come from destination issues, editorial rules, trademarks or restricted categories like health, finance and gambling.
Disapproved vs limited
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Disapproved | The ad or asset cannot show |
| Eligible (limited) | It can show, but only in some locations, devices or audiences |
| Under review | Google is still checking it |
| Account suspended | A serious or repeated issue affects the whole account |
Where to find the reason
- Go to Tools, then Policy manager.
- Open the Ads and assets tab to see each policy issue.
- Click the policy name to read the rule and examples.
Most common causes and fixes
| Cause | Typical fix |
|---|---|
| Destination not working | Fix broken links, redirects or slow pages, make sure the page loads for Google’s crawler |
| Destination mismatch | Make the display URL domain match the landing page |
| Editorial | Remove excessive capitals, symbols, repeated punctuation or unclear text |
| Trademarks | Remove trademarked terms or get authorisation |
| Misleading content | Remove claims you cannot prove and show clear business details |
| Restricted category | Apply for certification if required, follow the rules for your industry and country |
| Unacceptable business practices | Show real contact details, clear pricing and terms |
Fix, then resubmit or appeal
- If you changed the ad, landing page or asset, the edit usually goes back for review automatically.
- If you believe the decision is wrong, use Appeal in Policy manager and choose the reason.
- Do not create many copies of a disapproved ad. Repeated violations can lead to account suspension.
Prevent problems
- Check landing pages before launch, especially on mobile.
- Keep a clear privacy policy, contact page and business information on the site.
- Read the policy for your industry, such as healthcare or financial services.
- Complete advertiser verification when Google asks.
