Meta Ads + Conversions API rebuild for a Shopify brand
A Facebook and Instagram Ads case study: fixing the Meta Pixel and Conversions API so Meta Ads could optimise for real purchases instead of partial data.
The challenge
The brand was investing steadily in Facebook Ads and Instagram Ads, but the numbers in Meta Ads Manager did not match the orders in Shopify. A share of purchases never reached Meta because browser-only tracking was blocked by ad blockers, iOS privacy settings and cookie restrictions.
With incomplete purchase data, Meta's algorithm was learning from a partial picture. Campaigns optimised toward the wrong people, reported ROAS looked worse than reality, and it was hard to know which creatives and audiences were actually driving sales.
This is one of the projects behind the $25M+ in sales that Saifur Saif, a digital marketing specialist in Bangladesh, has helped generate through Google Ads and Meta Ads. Client details are kept confidential.
The approach
Audit, track, launch and test, then scale and report: the same process used on every project.
Audit
Reviewed the Meta Pixel, event setup, domain verification, aggregated event measurement and attribution settings, then compared Meta-reported purchases with real Shopify orders to measure the gap.
Track
Rebuilt the Meta Pixel and added the Conversions API with event deduplication, so each purchase is sent from both the browser and the server and counted once, with stronger customer data for better event match quality.
Launch & test
Checked every standard event in Events Manager against test orders, then restructured prospecting and retargeting campaigns so Meta Ads could optimise toward complete purchase data.
Scale & report
Set up weekly reporting on spend, cost per purchase, ROAS and creative performance, so budget could move toward the Facebook and Instagram ads that were really selling.
The outcome
Meta now receives a far more complete view of purchases from the Shopify store. That gives the algorithm better signals to find buyers, makes ROAS reporting more trustworthy, and gives the brand a reliable base for scaling Facebook and Instagram Ads.
Key takeaways for your business
- If Meta Ads Manager and your store disagree on sales, fix tracking before changing campaigns.
- The Conversions API is now essential for accurate Facebook Ads optimisation.
- Event deduplication prevents the same purchase being counted twice.
- Better data usually improves targeting more than new audiences do.
