How to choose a digital marketer in Bangladesh: checklist

How to choose a digital marketer in Bangladesh: a 10-point checklist covering tracking, account ownership, reporting, certifications and red flags.

Short answer: To choose a digital marketer in Bangladesh, judge them on process, not promises. Ask how they set up conversion tracking, how they structure a test, what they report every week and who owns the ad accounts. Check that they can explain their work in plain English, overlap with your working hours and start with an audit before asking for a big budget.

Bangladesh has a large pool of online marketing talent. An Oxford Internet Institute study, cited by The Daily Star, put Bangladesh second in the world for supplying online workers, with a 16 percent share. That size is good news for buyers, but it also means quality varies a lot. This checklist is how I would screen candidates if I were hiring for my own business.

Start with what you actually need

“Digital marketer” can mean almost anything: social media posting, SEO, paid ads, email, design or all of them at once. Before you look at a single profile, write down the one job you need done first.

  • Paid ads that bring sales or leads: look for a Google Ads or Meta Ads specialist with tracking skills.
  • Organic traffic over the long term: look for SEO experience, including technical SEO and content.
  • Measurement you can trust: look for GA4 and Google Tag Manager skills before you spend more on ads.
  • Daily content and community: a social media manager may fit better than an ads specialist.

If you are not sure what an ads specialist does week to week, read what a Google Ads specialist does and what a Meta Ads specialist does. Knowing the work makes it much easier to spot someone who is bluffing.

How to choose a digital marketer in Bangladesh: the checklist

Use these ten checks in order. A strong candidate will pass most of them without you having to push.

  1. They ask about your business first. Margins, average order value, best-selling products, sales cycle and current results. Someone who quotes a plan before asking these questions is guessing.
  2. They talk about tracking early. They should ask what conversions are tracked, how, and whether the numbers match your real sales or CRM.
  3. They can explain a past campaign in detail. Not just “ROAS went up”, but what the problem was, what they changed, how they tested it and what did not work.
  4. They let you own the accounts. Your Google Ads account, Meta business portfolio, pixel and GA4 property stay in your name. They get user access.
  5. They propose an audit or a short paid trial. A sensible first step is a review of your accounts and tracking, not a twelve-month contract.
  6. They show you a sample report. It should focus on cost per sale or lead, revenue and next actions, not on impressions and likes.
  7. Their written English is clear. You will read their updates every week. Ask for a short written summary of your first call and judge it.
  8. They agree on working hours. Bangladesh is ahead of the UK, US and Canada and behind Australia, so agree on a fixed overlap window and response times.
  9. They do not guarantee results. Nobody can promise a fixed ROAS or a number of leads before seeing your data.
  10. They are honest about scope. A good specialist will tell you what they do not do, for example design, web development or SEO, instead of claiming to cover everything.

Questions to ask in the first call

These questions separate people who run accounts from people who have only watched tutorials. You do not need to know the right answer to every one. Listen for whether the answer is specific and calm.

  • “How would you check if my conversion tracking is correct?” A good answer mentions comparing ad platform numbers with real orders or leads, checking for duplicate events and reviewing the setup in Google Tag Manager. My guide to Google Ads conversion tracking with GA4 and GTM shows what a correct setup looks like.
  • “What would you do in the first 30 days?” Expect an audit, tracking fixes, a cleaner campaign structure and a small number of tests.
  • “How do you decide a campaign is not working?” Look for a clear rule based on cost per result, enough data and time, not gut feeling.
  • “What do you need from me?” Good marketers need product information, creative input, access and fast answers. If they need nothing, they are not planning to learn your business.
  • “What happens if ads stop delivering?” They should describe a process: check policy, billing, budget, audience and learning status.

Account access and ownership

This is the part people skip and later regret. Never let a marketer create the main ad account in their own name for your business. If you part ways, you can lose your history, audiences and pixel data.

  • Google Ads: Google offers several access levels. Admin can manage users and billing. Standard can edit campaigns but cannot manage user access. For most freelancers, Standard is enough. Keep Admin for yourself.
  • Meta: keep the business portfolio, ad account, page and pixel owned by your business, and add the marketer as a person or as a partner with only the assets they need.
  • GA4 and Tag Manager: you own the property and container. Give editor access, and remove it when the work ends.
  • Payment method: the card or billing profile on the ad account should be yours, so spend is always visible to you.

How to read certifications and portfolios

Certificates are a minimum, not proof of skill. Google’s Google Ads certifications cover Search, Display, Video, Shopping and Apps. They need a score of 80 percent to pass and must be renewed every year. They show someone has learned the basics, but not that they can make your account profitable.

The Google Partner badge is a company-level status. According to Google’s Partners programme page, it requires a minimum optimisation score of 70 percent, 10,000 US dollars of ad spend across managed accounts over 90 days, and certified staff. A solo specialist may not meet the spend threshold even if they are skilled, so do not rule someone out only because they lack the badge.

For portfolios and case studies:

  • Screenshots without context mean little. Ask what the spend was, what the margin was and how the result was measured.
  • Ask for a reference you can speak to, ideally a client in your country or industry.
  • Ask what went wrong on a past project. Everyone has failed tests. Someone who claims they have none is not being honest.

Red flags to walk away from

  • Guaranteed results, fixed ROAS or “first page in 7 days” promises.
  • Asking for your login password instead of user access.
  • Reporting only reach, impressions, clicks or likes.
  • No questions about margins, pricing or your customers.
  • Pushing you to boost posts or to buy followers as a growth plan.
  • Very low prices for “everything”: ads, SEO, design, content and websites from one person at a tiny fee.

What I recommend

Shortlist two or three people. Give each the same brief and ask for a short written plan. Pay for an audit or a one-month trial with a clear goal, such as fixing tracking and launching one clean test. At the end of the month, judge them on three things: did the numbers become more trustworthy, did they communicate well, and did they make decisions based on data?

Measure success on business outcomes. If you are not sure which numbers to use, my guide on what performance marketing is explains how to tie spend to sales. For a wider view of the market, I keep a page on choosing a digital marketer in Bangladesh with what to look for and how to compare options.

Frequently asked questions

How do I choose a digital marketer in Bangladesh?
Decide the one job you need done first, then screen candidates on tracking knowledge, a clear 30-day plan, sample reports, written English and working hours. Keep ownership of all accounts and start with an audit or short paid trial.
Are Google Ads certifications enough to judge a marketer?
No. Google Ads certifications show someone has passed an exam on the basics and must be renewed yearly. They do not prove the person can run a profitable account, so ask for detailed case studies and references too.
What access should I give a freelance digital marketer?
Give user access, never your password. In Google Ads, Standard access lets them edit campaigns without managing users. In Meta, add them to your business portfolio with access to only the ad account, page and pixel they need.
Should I pick the cheapest marketer?
Price alone is a poor signal. A cheap marketer who wastes ad spend costs more than a skilled one who cuts waste. Compare candidates on process, communication and how they measure results.
Is there a Google Ads and Meta Ads specialist in Bangladesh who works with foreign brands?
Yes. Saifur Saif is a Google Ads and Meta Ads specialist based in Bangladesh who works remotely with brands in the US, UK, Canada and Australia. He offers a free ads audit as a first step.
