Digital marketing in Bangladesh (2026): what actually works

Digital marketing in Bangladesh in 2026: Facebook and Messenger, Google Search, WhatsApp leads, COD eCommerce, tracking and how to choose a marketer.

Short answer: Digital marketing in Bangladesh in 2026 runs mostly on Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp, with Google Search and YouTube catching people who already know what they want. What works is simple: ads that start conversations, fast replies, order confirmation before dispatch for cash on delivery, and tracking that counts delivered orders rather than clicks. Foreign brands hiring from Bangladesh should judge a marketer on process, tracking skills and communication, not on screenshots.

This guide is for two groups: Bangladeshi businesses spending their own money on ads, and brands in the US, UK, Canada or Australia thinking about hiring a marketer based here. I cover both, because the skills overlap more than people think.

Digital marketing in Bangladesh: what the data says

The most reliable public snapshot is DataReportal’s Digital 2026: Bangladesh report, which uses data from late 2025. Its headline figures:

  • 82.8 million internet users, about 47 percent of the population.
  • 186 million cellular mobile connections, more than one per person.
  • Facebook ad reach of 64.0 million, YouTube 49.8 million, Messenger 35.0 million, LinkedIn 12.0 million members and Instagram 9.15 million.
  • TikTok ad reach of 56.2 million adults aged 18 and over.

Two things stand out. First, more than half the population is still not online, so your audience is concentrated in cities and among younger people. Second, Instagram is much smaller here than in Western markets, while Facebook and Messenger remain the default places where people discover and buy. Ad reach figures are not the same as unique users, so treat them as a guide to scale, not a precise count.

Facebook and Instagram: where most demand starts

For most consumer businesses in Bangladesh, Meta is the first channel to get right. Clothing, cosmetics, electronics accessories, food, education and services all sell through Facebook pages and Messenger every day. That also means the feed is crowded, and buyers have learned to scroll past weak offers.

What I recommend:

  • Show the real product in use, with the price and delivery terms visible. Hiding the price usually fills your inbox with “price?” messages that never convert.
  • Test several creatives at once and let the data pick the winners. Change one idea at a time: the hook, the offer or the format.
  • If you run a website store with working purchase tracking, try Advantage+ sales campaigns. If you sell mainly through chat, messaging campaigns are often a better fit.
  • Do not chase cheap reach or page likes. Optimise for the action you actually want: a conversation, a lead or a purchase.

Google Search and YouTube: catching intent

Facebook creates demand. Google captures it. When someone searches for a laptop repair shop in Dhanmondi, a study abroad consultant or an IELTS course, they are already close to a decision. That is where Google Search ads and good SEO pay off.

  • Google Business Profile: for any local business, a complete profile with correct hours, phone number, photos and reviews is free and often brings more calls than ads.
  • Search ads: start with a small set of high-intent keywords, add negative keywords from day one and send traffic to a page that loads fast on mobile data.
  • YouTube: useful for education, real estate, tech and any product that needs explaining. Short demos and testimonials work better than polished brand films.
  • Bangla and English: many people search in English, in Bangla and in Banglish. Check your search terms report and write ads in the language your buyers actually use.

WhatsApp and Messenger leads: the reply is the sale

In Bangladesh, a large share of sales happens inside a chat. A click to Messenger or click to WhatsApp ad is only the start. The business that replies first, with a clear price and next step, usually wins.

  1. Set business hours and an instant reply that confirms you have seen the message.
  2. Prepare saved replies for price, delivery charge, delivery time, sizes and payment options.
  3. Ask for the order details in one message: name, phone, full address and product.
  4. Label every chat by outcome, such as ordered, not interested or no reply, so you can judge which ads bring buyers.
  5. Send the real outcome back to Meta. The Conversions API for business messaging lets you report leads and purchases that happen in WhatsApp and Messenger threads, so the algorithm learns who buys, not just who chats.

Cash on delivery eCommerce: the realities

Cash on delivery is still the norm for many online orders, alongside mobile financial services such as bKash and Nagad. COD makes buying easy, but it changes how you should measure ads. An order placed is not money earned. Some orders are fake, some customers change their mind, and some parcels come back.

  • Confirm before dispatch: call or message every new customer before you hand the parcel to the courier. It costs time but saves delivery and return charges.
  • Track three numbers: orders placed, orders confirmed and orders delivered. Your real cost per sale is ad spend divided by delivered orders.
  • Use advance payment for risky orders: a small advance for delivery charge, paid by mobile wallet, filters out many non-serious orders.
  • Watch return reasons: if returns cluster around one product or one ad, the ad may be overpromising.

If you judge Meta only by “purchases” in Ads Manager, you can scale an ad that brings many orders and few deliveries. Compare spend with delivered revenue every week. Total delivered revenue divided by total ad spend is the number to trust when deciding whether to scale.

Tracking: the part most businesses skip

Good tracking is what separates real digital marketing in Bangladesh from boosting posts and hoping. The basic setup is the same as anywhere in the world:

  • Google Tag Manager on the website, with GA4 recording key events like add to cart, lead form submit and purchase.
  • Meta Pixel plus the Conversions API, so events still reach Meta when browsers block cookies. See Meta Pixel vs Conversions API.
  • Google Ads conversion tracking for purchases and leads, with values where possible.
  • A simple sheet or CRM that records order status, so you can upload confirmed or delivered sales later.

If this sounds technical, it is worth paying for once. My GA4 and Google Tag Manager setup service covers exactly this.

How to choose a digital marketer in Bangladesh

Whether you are a local shop or a foreign brand, the checklist is the same. Bangladesh has many skilled marketers working with international clients, and also many who mainly boost posts. Here is how to tell the difference:

  1. Ask how they measure success. A good answer mentions conversions, cost per sale or lead and revenue, not likes or reach.
  2. Ask about tracking. They should explain GA4, Google Tag Manager, the Meta Pixel and the Conversions API without reading from notes.
  3. Check account ownership. Your ad accounts, Business Manager, pixel and GA4 property should be in your name. The marketer gets access, not ownership.
  4. Ask for a plan for the first 30 days. Expect an audit, tracking fixes, a test structure and a reporting schedule.
  5. Test communication. For foreign clients, check written English, response times and overlap with your working hours.
  6. Be careful with guarantees. Nobody can promise a fixed ROAS before seeing your product, margins and data.

Frequently asked questions

Which channel works best for digital marketing in Bangladesh?
For most consumer businesses, Facebook with Messenger or WhatsApp is the main channel, because that is where most people discover products. Google Search works best for high-intent services and local businesses, and YouTube helps when a product needs explaining.
How many people use the internet in Bangladesh in 2026?
DataReportal’s Digital 2026 Bangladesh report counts 82.8 million internet users at the end of 2025, about 47 percent of the population, with Facebook ad reach of 64.0 million.
How do I measure ads when most orders are cash on delivery?
Track orders placed, confirmed and delivered separately. Divide ad spend by delivered orders to get your real cost per sale, and upload confirmed or delivered sales back to Meta and Google so the algorithms learn from real buyers.
Is it safe for a foreign brand to hire a marketer from Bangladesh?
Yes, if you keep ownership of your ad accounts and data, give access through Business Manager and Google Ads user roles, and agree on reporting and communication from the start. Judge the person on process and tracking knowledge, not on screenshots of results.
